Code of Conduct

The Yonsei Basketball Association’s Code of Conduct establishes the expectations of the behavior of all Yonsei Basketball Association participants (players, parents, coaches) during their outbound, time abroad, inbound, and continued involvement with the Yonsei Basketball Association program.  Participants are responsible to conduct themselves appropriately and respectfully and must abide by the Yonsei Basketball Association policies referred to within the Code of Conduct.  Any violation of this Code of Conduct will subject the participant(s) to disciplinary action that my include a loss of privileges and/or dismissal from the program.  The Code of Conduct exists to maintain the integrity of the program while ensuring a safe and successful experience for all participants.

All players are expected to abide by the following:

  • Act as an ambassador of your Yonsei basketball team, the Yonsei Basketball Association, and the United States, it is important that you set a good, positive example with your overall behavior on and off the basketball court.  Abusive and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Attend all team practices, fundraising activities, and meetings as scheduled and participate, as required, in cooperation with your teammates, coaches, and parents.
  • Agree to take part in all home-stay activities, cultural and Yonsei team activities while in Japan.
  • The purchase, possession, and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs is prohibited and player caught is subject to immediate dismissal from the program.
  • The purchase, possession, and /or consumption of tobacco products is prohibited and player caught is subject to immediate dismissal from the program.
  • Serious and/or repetitive behavior violations, including the use of tobacco, cheating, stealing, dishonesty, swearing, fighting, harassment, and cursing may result in expulsion from outbound/inbound activities or serious disciplinary action, not excluding removal from the Yonsei Basketball Association program.
  • Responsible for your actions during all Yonsei-related activities, including basketball practices, fundraisers, community service events, traveling to/from Japan, etc.
  • Demonstrate respect and be personally responsible for any loss, damage, or vandalism of property as a result of your actions.  (This includes changing the official uniform, logo, or other items used to identify the Yonsei team).
  • Agree to treat everyone with dignity, worth, respect, concern, courtesy, and fairness.
  • Agree to respect and abide with all laws and regulations in the United States and Japan.
  • Will not change host family assignment without the approval from the Yonsei Board.
  • Will not change room assignments without the approval from the Yonsei Board.

 

Each parent is expected to abide by the following:

  • Set a good example with an overall positive behavior, representing the Yonsei team, the Yonsei Basketball Association, and the United States appropriately.  Abusive and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Ensure your child attends all team practices, fundraising activities, and meetings as scheduled and participate, as required, in cooperation with his/her teammates, coaches, and parents.
  • Take part in all cultural and Yonsei team activities while in Japan.
  • Support the coaches, Yonsei staff, and fellow participants.  Any disagreements or concerns will be handled with the utmost respect for each other.  Disruptive or abusive behavior, violations of any laws in any country is cause for the immediate disqualification of your family from the Yonsei Goodwill Tour and/or program.
  • Refrain from changing the official Yonsei uniform, logo, or other items used to identify the Yonsei team without proper authorization from the Yonsei Board of Directors.
  • Limit your child’s participation in any outside basketball leagues or tournaments, other than school commitments, from July 1 through the end of the Y21 Goodwill tour.  Participation in any non-school basketball event should be discussed with the Yonsei Board prior to committing.
  • Responsible for the actions of your child during all Yonsei-related activities, including basketball practices, fundraisers, community service events, traveling to/from Japan, etc.  Any serious and/or repetitive behavior violations, including the use of tobacco, cheating, stealing, dishonesty, swearing, fighting, harassment, and cursing by your child may result in expulsion from outbound/inbound activities or serious disciplinary action, not excluding removal from the Yonsei program.
  • Ensure that your Yonsei team refrains from playing under the official Yonsei Basketball Association banner, unless approved by the Yonsei Board.
