Applicant Requirements

 

8th grade (Fall 2025) Applicants must:

• have played on a CBO, CYC, JAO or SEYO team for at least one season (2nd - 7th grade)

• submit the Part 1 Application Request

• submit the Part 2 Player and Parent Applications 

• attend the Basketball Tryouts and write a brief Essay 

• attend the Player and Parents Interviews (interviews are conducted separately) 

 

Application Details

 

Submit the Application Request Form (Part 1) here or use the QR code as soon as possible

and no later than November 15, 2025 at 8pm

 

Submit the Player and Parent Applications (Part 2) by December 1, 2025 at 8pm PST:

• Links to the Applications will be emailed (allow 72 hours) once the Application Request is received

• Applicants must submit a current academic year Progress Report (3.0 GPA or higher), Current Photo of Player, Photo of Player with their Family (high resolution), and two (2) Letters of Recommendation (not from family members or a current/former sports coach)

 

Save the Dates

• Saturday January 10, 2026 Basketball Tryouts/Essay (all parents encouraged to attend)

  • In the event of illness or injury, with a doctor’s note, an unedited full game video taken within the last 12 months will be accepted if submitted on this day. Even if submitting a video, applicants must still attend Tryouts.

 

• Saturday January 17, 2026 Player and Parents Interviews - (all parents must attend)

 

There will be no alternate or makeup days for Tryouts/Essay or Interviews

Yonsei reserves the right to determine eligibility on a case by case basis

 

Participation Requirements

 

• Players must fundraise their trip and program costs, and may be asked to participate in Inbound Year (second year) fundraising

• One parent/guardian must accompany the player to Japan

• The Inbound Year includes hosting the team from Japan and each family may have the opportunity to host a player

• One parent/guardian must attend all meetings and activities with the player. School conflicts and family emergencies should be discussed with the Team Board Members for exceptions.

• All players and parents must attend Orientation in February 2026 and the Yonsei Golf Tournament in June 2026
